Our biggest summer launch yet has arrived: the Made In Grill. Hand crafted in Fort Worth, Texas, the Grill is designed for performance, durability, and stability—and at a compact 35 pounds, it’s also portable. Made from stainless steel and carbon steel, our favorite high heat materials, the grill hones in on performance and chef-driven features that deliver chef-quality food.
We designed the grill to use charcoal, hardwood, or binchotan (white charcoal used in Japanese cooking), no chimney starter required. An adjustable firebed, equipped with our Stay Cool Handles, lets you control the heat level. Perhaps best of all, we designed our grill to fit with our Carbon Steel Griddle. The built-in stainless steel grate folds into the back side of the grill, leaving room for the griddle to rest on top of the grill.
Before we get too excited about the grilling possibilities the Made In Grill offers, let’s go over how to properly care for your grill. In our care guide, we’ll cover how to clean each part of the Made In Grill, seasoning tips, and storage advice. Maybe you’ll even find a recipe or two to test out on your new grill. (Spoiler: You will.)
General Cleaning Best Practices

Since you’ll be cooking over high temperatures, remember the grill can and will get screaming hot. Before cleaning any part of the grill, always let the grill fully cool down. Remove and dispose of ash from the grill body, then clean the grill with mild soap and warm water as needed. (Avoid harsh chemical cleaners, which can damage the finish.) Dry the grill thoroughly to prevent rust.
Below, we’ll dive into cleaning the Made in Grill, section by section.
Cleaning the Grill Interior & Ash Tray

To clean the grill interior and ash tray, first, wait until coals are completely extinguished. This is not a campfire cooking pit; do not use water to extinguish the coals. Once the ash is completely cool, safely dump and dispose of it. Since the interior cookbox is coated with carbon steel, you can rinse it with high pressure water and use a little soap as needed. Dry the interior with a towel before storing.
Cleaning the Stainless Steel Grill Grate

Depending on what you’ve cooked, the Stainless Steel Grill Grate may not need much cleaning. Once it’s cooled, remove food residue with a carbon steel scrubber, chain mail, or a bristle scrubber (avoid anything too harsh like steel wool). If needed, you can also use mild dish soap and water to help remove residue. Rinse the grill grate with water once done, then dry off the grill grate to avoid oxidation.
If you’d like, you can also season the grill grate before using—this is optional, but could help reduce good sticking to a new grill. If you’ve seasoned carbon steel or cast iron, it’s essentially the same process. Use a clean towel or paper towel to evenly coat the grates with a high-heat, neutral cooking oil (we like grapeseed). Don’t use so much oil that it’s dripping from the grates; you’re looking for a light, even coating, similar to buffing oil into carbon steel and cast iron. Once the grates are coated, fire up the grill and let it heat for 15 to 30 minutes.
Cleaning the Grill Outer Shell

Since you’re using the grill outside, the outer shell is bound to get a little grimy. To clean the outer shell, use a neutral cleaner with a pH between 6 and 8, such as dish soap, Bar Keepers Friend, or a Magic Eraser. Whichever cleaner you choose, test it first on a small patch before going all in. If there’s something stuck on the outside, you can use a lightly abrasive scrubby sponge to remove it; avoid steel wool or anything that may scratch the shell. Once done cleaning, rinse with warm water and dry with a towel before storing.
Storage Tips and Long-Term Care

The Made In Grill is built for durability, but you should still take care when storing it. Exposure to the outside elements can cause rust and other damage, so it’s best to avoid prolonged exposure to moisture. Always store the grill in a dry location, whether your house or a garage, preferably within a Grill Cover.
Re-season the carbon steel surfaces periodically, following the guidance above, for peak performance. That extra seasoning helps prevent rust and other damage, just like seasoning your other carbon steel cookware does. And, be sure to register your grill for warranty and visit the Made In Care Center for additional support. We’re here to help.
