This month, Michael Harlan Turkell’s new book Acid Trip: Travels in the World of Vinegar hooked us on new ways to incorporate vinegar into our home cooking. We tried a bunch of recipes from Acid Trip (The Chimichurri Chicken Wings are a must) and worked up a thirst for more vinegar. With summer in full swing, we wanted a light, refreshing vinegar-based cocktail to keep the theme going, and we knew just who to ask.
Jan Andrew Brown is the Principle Bartender at Drink in Boston, MA. Drink is a bar “entirely dedicated to the craft of the cocktail and blends time-honored techniques and the classic cocktails of the prohibition era with modern innovation and the very best artisanal ingredients.” It’s no surprise Made In loves to visit him Jan at his "office" and seeks his expertise in all things scotch and beyond.
We asked Jan for the best vinegar recipe in his arsenal, and he delivered with The Roussillon.
Inspired by the charming small French village that’s known for its yellow and red ochre deposits in the clay surrounding the village, The Roussillon is a light, refreshing yellow-orange cocktail with a tart pop of lemon and vinegar. It’s perfect for summer and for newly-minted vinegar lovers.
