# Made In Staff Kitchen Essentials: Vol. 6 - Made In In this installment of Made In Kitchen Essentials, CEO Chip takes us into his kitchen to see what a meal prepping, grilling dad of a toddler uses the most. Wondering how to start your cookware collection from scratch? Or how to pare down what you have to just the cookware that is worthwhile and necessary? The answer is a little different for everyone. Welcome to _My Kitchen Essentials_, a column by Made In staff detailing, well, their kitchen essentials. Today, co-founder and CEO Chip Malt shares his most-used pieces of cookware from the collection that’s grown alongside Made In. Chip grills and meal preps for his family, including a young toddler, on the days he’s not staying true to his Boston roots and pulling frozen lobster out of his freezer. ```json { "_key": "0db070fc1386", "_type": "embed", "type": "tiktok", "url": "https://www.tiktok.com/@madeincookware/video/7524741424747777335" } ``` ```json { "_key": "77286b56fbbd", "_type": "tableOfContents" } ``` ## 11” Tom Colicchio x Made In Carbon Steel Frying Pan We made this one a little thicker than our standard [Carbon Steel Frying Pan](/products/carbon-steel-frying-pan), which makes it perfect for everything from searing fish or steak to scrambling eggs. I know people can get intimidated by carbon steel, but it’s way [easier to clean](/blogs/how-to-clean-a-carbon-steel-pan) than you think—trust me. ## Carbon Steel Griddle ```json { "_key": "7d06090c2533", "_type": "variant", "data": { "_id": "variant-40097393999951", "badges": [ { "_key": "Personalize It", "logoAsset": null, "title": "Personalize It" } ], "collegiateAsset": null, "computed": { "discount": 0, "isAvailable": true, "isPrimary": true, "offset": 0, "price": 179, "status": "forSale" }, "handle": { "current": "griddle-nl" }, "imageBadges": null, "media": [ { "_key": "135f0d9c161eada532c4b65b9e4fb598", "alignment": null, "captionStyle": null, "description": null, "hotspots": null, "image": { "asset": { "altText": "carbon steel griddle lifestyle image", "metadata": { "dimensions": { "_type": "sanity.imageDimensions", "aspectRatio": 1, "height": 1440, "width": 1440 }, "lqip": "data:image/jpeg;base64,/9j/2wBDAAYEBQYFBAYGBQYHBwYIChAKCgkJChQODwwQFxQYGBcUFhYaHSUfGhsjHBYWICwgIyYnKSopGR8tMC0oMCUoKSj/2wBDAQcHBwoIChMKChMoGhYaKCgoKCgoKCgoKCgoKCgoKCgoKCgoKCgoKCgoKCgoKCgoKCgoKCgoKCgoKCgoKCgoKCj/wAARCAAUABQDASIAAhEBAxEB/8QAGAABAAMBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUGBwT/xAAkEAACAgEEAQQDAAAAAAAAAAABAgMEAAUREiETBjFBUSIjcf/EABUBAQEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUG/8QAHhEAAgICAgMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAQIAAxESBCITIVH/2gAMAwEAAhEDEQA/AIu5d1GaRzqsy2KCHqNjx5kfeUzXLte5CJazw1/2cWj5cmHXt/MnL9hLiE1bCBUAQqw3Vt846vpYPpsrJ4nLy9sAR4x94ezjbd41WjaeOoTP2kesxjU7gHcE/OMsOo6C623VSXVeg33jEEdSoOYbZTYGI1mgaPplRJINoh+TkHfNwl9P6c2iwgQBS0Y5FeievnGMnuQclsyhTqqEfZTbWl06c7QQ108a+3IbnGMYM7HY+4+g6if/2Q==" }, "url": "https://cdn.sanity.io/images/fr9flhkd/main/8e2702073bacd1a52589a859cbfa739ec5dfe7e1-1440x1440.jpg" }, "hotspot": null }, "markets": null, "size": null, "tags": [ "secondary", "gallery" ], "type": "image", "video": null } ], "meta": { "hasCollegiate": false, "hasTrial": true, "hasWaitList": false, "isCollegiate": false, "isDiscountEligible": true, "isFinalSale": false, "isHidden": false, "isOnSale": true, "isSet": false, "marketOverrides": { "eu": { "expectedShipDate": null, "hasWaitList": null, "isComingSoon": null, "isHidden": null, "isOutOfStock": null } }, "promoDates": null, "promoPrice": null, "warranty": "lifetime" }, "product": { "ranking": 21, "rating": { "rating": 4.77, "rating_count": 2318 }, "shopify": { "handle": "carbon-steel-griddle", "id": 6754610217039, "image": { "alt": null, "height": 1500, "src": "https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/2131/5111/files/Web_Carbon_Steel_Griddle_2-Burner_1x1_Hero.jpg?v=1762199417", "width": 1500 }, "title": "Carbon Steel Griddle" } }, "shopify": { "handle": null, "id": 40097393999951, "image": { "alt": null, "height": 1500, "src": "https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/2131/5111/files/Web_Carbon_Steel_Griddle_2-Burner_1x1_Hero.jpg?v=1762199417", "width": 1500 }, "option1": "Griddle Only", "option2": "Standard", "option3": null, "title": "Griddle Only / Standard" }, "taxonomies": [ { "handle": { "current": "induction-compatible" }, "title": "Induction Compatible", "type": "features" }, { "handle": { "current": "oven-safe" }, "title": "Oven Safe", "type": "features" }, { "handle": { "current": "pfas-free" }, "title": "Free of PFAS", "type": "features" }, { "handle": { "current": "personalized" }, "title": "Personalized", "type": "features" }, { "handle": { "current": "grill-safe" }, "title": "Grill Safe", "type": "features" }, { "handle": { "current": "third-party-tested" }, "title": "Third-Party Tested", "type": "features" }, { "handle": { "current": "sweden" }, "title": "Sweden", "type": "country_of_origin" }, { "handle": { "current": "carbon-steel" }, "title": "Carbon Steel", "type": "material" }, { "handle": { "current": "cookware" }, "title": "Cookware", "type": "product_category" }, { "handle": { "current": "griddle" }, "title": "Griddles", "type": "product_type" }, { "handle": { "current": "specialty-shapes" }, "title": "Specialty Shape", "type": "product_category" } ], "title": "Griddle" } } ``` This lives on my stovetop year-round. It’s my go-to for breakfast and incredibly helpful for batch cooking and meal prepping throughout the week. ## Universal Lid ```json { "_key": "86458c0e85cd", "_type": "variant", "data": { "_id": "variant.42387418906703", "badges": [ { "_key": "Best Seller", "logoAsset": null, "title": "Best Seller" } ], "collegiateAsset": null, "computed": { "discount": 0, "isAvailable": false, "isPrimary": true, "offset": 0, "price": 99, "status": "soldOut" }, "handle": { "current": "graphite" }, "imageBadges": null, "media": [ { "_key": "722a97869fd9", "alignment": null, "captionStyle": null, "description": null, "hotspots": null, "image": { "asset": { "altText": "A black carbon steel frying pan with a long handle and a small helper handle.", "metadata": { "dimensions": { "_type": "sanity.imageDimensions", "aspectRatio": 1, "height": 1500, "width": 1500 }, "lqip": "data:image/jpeg;base64,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" }, "url": "https://cdn.sanity.io/images/fr9flhkd/main/621edd6a2d8ac1775661b0c77a27739480eab05c-1500x1500.jpg" }, "hotspot": null }, "markets": null, "size": null, "tags": [ "gallery", "preview", "secondary" ], "type": "image", "video": null } ], "meta": { "hasCollegiate": false, "hasTrial": true, "hasWaitList": false, "isCollegiate": false, "isDiscountEligible": true, "isFinalSale": false, "isHidden": false, "isOnSale": true, "isSet": false, "marketOverrides": { "eu": { "expectedShipDate": null, "hasWaitList": true, "isComingSoon": true, "isHidden": null, "isOutOfStock": null } }, "promoDates": null, "promoPrice": null, "warranty": null }, "product": { "ranking": 81, "rating": { "rating": 4.82, "rating_count": 2273 }, "shopify": { "handle": "frying-pan-silicone-universal-lid", "id": 4183470276687, "image": { "alt": null, "height": 1500, "src": "https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/2131/5111/files/Web_Accessory_FryingPan-Universal-Lid_Grey_Hero_1x1_HIRES-2.jpg?v=1762197969", "width": 1500 }, "title": "Frying Pan Silicone Universal Lid" } }, "shopify": { "handle": null, "id": 42387418906703, "image": { "alt": null, "height": 1500, "src": "https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/2131/5111/files/Web_Accessory_FryingPan-Universal-Lid_Grey_Hero_1x1_HIRES-2.jpg?v=1762197969", "width": 1500 }, "option1": "Graphite", "option2": null, "option3": null, "title": "Graphite" }, "taxonomies": [ { "handle": { "current": "accessories" }, "title": "Accessories", "type": "product_category" }, { "handle": { "current": "frying-pans" }, "title": "Frying Pans", "type": "product_type" }, { "handle": { "current": "cookware" }, "title": "Cookware", "type": "product_category" }, { "handle": { "current": "china" }, "title": "China", "type": "country_of_origin" } ], "title": null } } ``` A little biased as this was my brainchild, but I do love the Universal Lid vs. having a ton of loose lids lying around for different frying pans. And don’t just take my word for it—it was one of Oprah’s favorites, too. ## Graza Olive Oil We’re big fans of Graza, both the people and the products. The squeeze bottle is genius, and it lives next to my stove. ## Jacobsen Salt Co. Salts Jacobsen is doing exciting things in their space, so we were really excited to partner with them for our [Smash Burger Seasoning Trio](/products/made-in-x-jacobsen-salt/set). I always have their salts on hand, and love the ones we were able to make together. ## Servingware ```json { "_key": "68c821c4e9dc", "_type": "variant", "data": { "_id": "variant-39702784606287", "badges": [], "collegiateAsset": null, "computed": { "discount": 0, "isAvailable": true, "isPrimary": true, "offset": 0, "price": 99, "status": "forSale" }, "handle": { "current": "white" }, "imageBadges": null, "media": [ { "_key": "3395a28aeb99", "alignment": null, "captionStyle": null, "description": null, "hotspots": null, "image": { "asset": { "altText": "Made In White Serving Bowl holding chopped vegetables and tofu in dressing, with wooden serving utensils.", "metadata": { "dimensions": { "_type": "sanity.imageDimensions", "aspectRatio": 1, "height": 1440, "width": 1440 }, "lqip": "data:image/jpeg;base64,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" }, "url": "https://cdn.sanity.io/images/fr9flhkd/main/d0aeca2acb838007003a25e97d7845ca936023a9-1440x1440.jpg" }, "hotspot": null }, "markets": null, "size": null, "tags": [ "gallery", "secondary" ], "type": "image", "video": null } ], "meta": { "hasCollegiate": false, "hasTrial": true, "hasWaitList": false, "isCollegiate": false, "isDiscountEligible": true, "isFinalSale": false, "isHidden": false, "isOnSale": true, "isSet": false, "marketOverrides": { "eu": { "expectedShipDate": null, "hasWaitList": null, "isComingSoon": null, "isHidden": null, "isOutOfStock": null } }, "promoDates": null, "promoPrice": null, "warranty": "lifetime" }, "product": { "ranking": 44, "rating": { "rating": 4.93, "rating_count": 356 }, "shopify": { "handle": "serving-bowl", "id": 6648800903247, "image": { "alt": null, "height": 1500, "src": "https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/2131/5111/files/Web_Tabletop_ServingBowl_Undecorated_1x1_Hero.jpg?v=1762199100", "width": 1500 }, "title": "Serving Bowl" } }, "shopify": { "handle": null, "id": 39702784606287, "image": { "alt": null, "height": 1500, "src": "https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/2131/5111/files/Web_Tabletop_ServingBowl_Undecorated_1x1_Hero.jpg?v=1762199100", "width": 1500 }, "option1": "White", "option2": null, "option3": null, "title": "White" }, "taxonomies": [ { "handle": { "current": "tabletop" }, "title": "Tabletop", "type": "product_category" }, { "handle": { "current": "white" }, "title": "White ", "type": "color" }, { "handle": { "current": "bowls" }, "title": "Bowls", "type": "product_type" }, { "handle": { "current": "service-pieces" }, "title": "Serving Pieces", "type": "product_type" }, { "handle": { "current": "oven-safe" }, "title": "Oven Safe", "type": "features" }, { "handle": { "current": "dishwasher-safe" }, "title": "Dishwasher Safe", "type": "features" }, { "handle": { "current": "pfas-free" }, "title": "Free of PFAS", "type": "features" }, { "handle": { "current": "freezer-safe" }, "title": "Freezer Safe", "type": "features" }, { "handle": { "current": "england" }, "title": "England", "type": "country_of_origin" } ], "title": null } } ``` We host a lot and always do it family-style, so I’m constantly reaching for our Servingware (both the [Platter](/products/serving-platter/) and [Bowls](/products/serving-bowl/)). Each piece is made in England, feels incredible in the hand, and makes even a simple weeknight dinner feel a little more special. ## Japanese Knives ```json { "_key": "3497aae9aaa6", "_type": "variant", "data": { "_id": "variant.42023885176911", "badges": [], "collegiateAsset": null, "computed": { "discount": 0, "isAvailable": true, "isPrimary": true, "offset": 0, "price": 239, "status": "forSale" }, "handle": { "current": "8-inch" }, "imageBadges": null, "media": [ { "_key": "b145a2faa540", "alignment": null, "captionStyle": null, "description": null, "hotspots": null, "image": { "asset": { "altText": "A Made In Chef Knife slices a carrot into thin rounds on a wooden cutting board.", "metadata": { "dimensions": { "_type": "sanity.imageDimensions", "aspectRatio": 0.8, "height": 1350, "width": 1080 }, "lqip": "data:image/jpeg;base64,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" }, "url": "https://cdn.sanity.io/images/fr9flhkd/main/7e76f4fba350cb6c11b6a6133329c49a83165f69-1080x1350.jpg" }, "hotspot": null }, "markets": null, "size": null, "tags": [ "gallery", "secondary" ], "type": "image", "video": null } ], "meta": { "hasCollegiate": false, "hasTrial": true, "hasWaitList": false, "isCollegiate": false, "isDiscountEligible": true, "isFinalSale": false, "isHidden": false, "isOnSale": true, "isSet": false, "marketOverrides": { "eu": { "expectedShipDate": null, "hasWaitList": null, "isComingSoon": null, "isHidden": true, "isOutOfStock": null } }, "promoDates": null, "promoPrice": null, "warranty": "lifetime" }, "product": { "ranking": 47, "rating": { "rating": 4.97, "rating_count": 39 }, "shopify": { "handle": "japanese-gyuto-knife", "id": 7541335195727, "image": { "alt": null, "height": 1500, "src": "https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/2131/5111/files/Web_Knives_Japanese_Gyuto_8in_POM-Black_1x1_004.jpg?v=1762268812", "width": 1500 }, "title": "Japanese Damascus Steel Gyuto" } }, "shopify": { "handle": null, "id": 42023885176911, "image": { "alt": null, "height": 1500, "src": "https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/2131/5111/files/Web_Knives_Japanese_Gyuto_8in_POM-Black_1x1_004.jpg?v=1762268812", "width": 1500 }, "option1": "8\"", "option2": null, "option3": null, "title": "8\"" }, "taxonomies": [ { "handle": { "current": "knives" }, "title": "Knives", "type": "product_category" } ], "title": null } } ``` I’ve tested a ton of knives, and a recent favorite is our Gyuto from the [Japanese Damasus Steel Collection](/products/japanese-knife-set/). We’ve released some really unique shapes over the years—like the Yanagi, 6” Santoku, and [Cleaver](/products/cleaver/olive-wood)—and I like having them all close by. ## Gozney Dome Pizza Oven We do a lot of outdoor cooking at home, and the Gozney gets a ton of use. It’s not just for pizza; we’ve done shrimp, steaks, you name it. It perfectly fits the Carbon Steel Frying Pan—which is actually what inspired our [Pizza Oven Set](/products/pizza-oven-set/small)—and makes for a really convenient outdoor oven. ## _Roads & Kingdoms_ Cookbooks These aren’t your average cookbooks. They’re narrative-driven travel guides with a food lens, and I’ve collected every single one. The Japan volume is a favorite—it focuses less on recipes, more about understanding the _why_ behind local cuisine. ## Ready to Shop? That’s what’s in my kitchen (for now).
