This summer, we took the smash burger one step further by teaming up with the artisans at Jacobsen Salt Co. to create a trio of bold, small-batch salts inspired by the nostalgic flavors of the American burger. Crafted to complement everything from classic barbecue fare to cocktails, the Made In x Jacobsen Salt Co. Seasoning Trio was born out of a shared belief that great cooking starts with great ingredients.

Here’s the story behind the design of our newest collaboration—and how we turned your favorite burger toppings into your new favorite seasonings.

Meet the Trio

This collection started with a question from our Culinary Director, Rhoda Boone: What if we could bottle the best parts of a burger and turn them into gourmet seasonings?

From that idea, we worked closely with the team at Jacobsen Salt Co. to create three distinct salt blends that captured those familiar, craveable flavors—but in a way that felt fresh, balanced, and endlessly versatile. The result is a lineup that’s deeply rooted in nostalgia but designed to elevate every dish it touches, from backyard burgers to weeknight chicken.

Each blend in the trio is built on a foundation of Jacobsen’s signature hand-harvested sea salt from the Oregon Coast, then layered with high-quality spices, herbs, and powders hand-selected by Rhoda to bring out bold, nuanced flavors in every sprinkle.

Smoky Onion Salt

Rich and savory with just a hint of sweetness, this blend gets its depth from caramelized onion and mesquite smoke. It’s a natural fit for burgers and steaks, but don’t stop there—try it on burgers or patty melts, meatloaf and meatballs, or sautéed mushrooms.

Pickle Salt

Bright, briny, and tangy, this salt is a love letter to the classic dill pickle. It captures the sharp crunch of a rich Kosher spear, balanced with just the right hit of vinegar powder. Use it to wake up grilled fish or chicken wings, toss with popcorn, or rim a Bloody Mary glass.

Secret Sauce Salt

Umami-rich and subtly sweet, this blend brings the mysterious magic of your favorite burger sauce to everything it touches. It’s packed with spices that transform simple sides like fries or coleslaw into something special—and it’s surprisingly delicious on eggs, roast chicken, or shellfish like shrimp.

For all three blends, Rhoda suggests using the blends to flavor flour or breadcrumbs for dredging various proteins, mixing mayonnaise or yogurt to make a dip or sauce (like the one served with her Grilled Pickle Wings), or as salt rims for creative cocktails.

Salt with Substance

Jacobsen Salt Co. is known for producing some of the highest-quality salt in the country, harvested directly from the Pacific Ocean off the Oregon Coast. Each batch is hand-crafted in Netarts Bay using a slow evaporation process that preserves the salt’s clean, mineral-rich flavor.

These blends use that same signature sea salt as their base, then build flavor with real, thoughtfully sourced ingredients. No artificial flavorings—just small-batch seasoning that delivers big, balanced taste.
