What Is a Bread and Butter Plate?

Sometimes called “bread plates,” Bread and Butter Plates are a classic piece of dinnerware found especially in restaurants. Usually made of stoneware, they’re about half the size of a Dinner Plate and slightly larger than a saucer. They’re designed to fit a single serving of bread and a pat (or two) of butter, but their usefulness extends well beyond that, making them an essential piece of any serveware or dinnerware set.
