    Is Ceramic Cookware Dishwasher Safe?

A person in an apron is pouring a pancake batter onto a plate from a small pan, with ingredients arrayed on the counter.

While care and cleaning instructions vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, we strongly recommend against running our CeramiClad™ cookware through the dishwasher. As with most of our products, gentle hand-washing is the most effective way to prevent warping, scratching, and other forms of permanent damage, as well as help your pan last longer.

Why We Advise Against Dishwasher Cleaning

While wonderfully efficient for cleaning plates and flatware, the dishwasher can dramatically reduce the lifespan of your pans, ceramic or not. Dishwashers use harsh, enzyme-based cleaners and circulating jets of extremely hot water to clean, both of which can lead to cracked or degraded coating, warped metal bases, and other damage.

It doesn’t help that dishwashers are often crammed with sharp metal utensils, pan handles, and other items that can scratch or chip your pan if it shifts around.

Best Practices for Cleaning Ceramic Cookware

A person wearing an apron is cracking eggs into a bowl on a kitchen counter, surrounded by various cooking utensils and ingredients.

So if the dishwasher is off the table, how should you clean ceramic cookware? To start, make sure to let your pan cool completely before running it under the tap. Subjecting your pan to sudden temperature change can produce thermal shock, resulting in cracked or degraded coating. Once your pan has cooled to room temperature, wash thoroughly using a gentle dish soap and sponge, then wipe dry.

    Ready to Clean?

It may seem like an annoyance, but following the proper care and cleaning instructions really does make a difference in your ceramic pan’s performance and longevity.
