Kalimotxo (Red Wine Cocktail)
Easy to make and easier to drink, the kalimotxo isโhands downโour favorite cocktail for day drinking and evening barbecues.
Made from red wine, Coke, and not much else, the kalimotxo (or calimocho) is easy to make and easier to drinkโa cooling low-ABV option perfect for daytime functions and cookouts. It hails from Basque Country in northern Spain, where itโs both a popular party drink and loathed by oenophiles for its โhereticalโ pairing of wine and soda. Respectfully, weโre siding with public opinion: Itโs cheap, refreshing, and the ingredients are always easy to get a hold ofโmuch like the same-but-different Tinto de Verano. Though we wouldnโt recommend using your best bottle of wine, a reasonably priced tempranillo or grenache does nicely.
Note: If a 1:1 ratio of wine to cola is a bit too sweet for your taste, club soda can be swapped for some of the cola or added to top off the cocktail.
