What’s the difference between red wine glasses and white wine glasses?

Similar in shape but with a few key differences, both red wine glasses and white wine glasses can accommodate numerous types of wine. Reds like bordeaux, pinot noir, merlot, and cabernet sauvignon need bigger, rounder drinking glasses to accommodate their fuller bodies. On the other hand, white wine varietals like chardonnay and sauvignon blanc generally feature a narrow bowl to preserve floral tasting notes and maintain a cooler temperature for the vino. Both types of drinkware prefer a long stem, which any sommelier will tell you minimizes the effect of your hands heating the wine.
