The indent provides a solid grip while holding or tipping the pot. The brushed texture also provides a better grip than my previous polished handles. Good length compared to some other brands. I haven't had them long. -1/4 star because they are a tiny bit thinner than my previous (heat retention probably not noticeable) and the stainless is only stainless before you use it. I did get some pitting and discoloration from the first use including some shadows of the pasta shapes, maybe this will even out over time. I'm not going to barkeeper's friend them every week.
