There's no way to visually ascertain if the sharp edge is up or down when holding them. The only way to know is to look up the "made in" writing on the knife. They're perfectly symmetrical! These steak knives are profiled like a dagger, but with one sharp edge and one dull edge. There is no way to index the knife without looking at it, so you must view the very small text on the blade itself to know if you are holding the knife the right way. My wife has 85% vision loss - these knives are impossible for her to use safely. I have my full vision, and these knives are extremely difficult to know if you are holding correctly.
